How do you hide your Shoelaces from the ends?

Thursday, 21 January 2021

Having the right quality and length of shoelaces is part of upgrading the look of your sneakers. The other part is having a cool sneaker lace design. If that design includes a clean outlay with hidden shoelaces, then the results are often unbelievable.

But, hiding your shoelaces isn’t without challenges. If you don’t do it right, it can result in a painful day as the laces press against your feet as you walk. To help you make your sneakers stand out by hiding your shoelaces, here are a few techniques you could use that will improve aesthetics and won’t compromise your comfort as you get around.

Double Lacing
Double lacing is the most effective method of hiding your laces. It works perfectly if you have long laces, and there’s no cutting required so you can keep your laces as long as you like.

To double lace, unlace your shoes to the midsection of the eyelets. From this point, ensure the laces go from the outside to the inside of the eyelets, so when you get to the top, the remaining bit of shoelace will be inside the shoe.

When you start lacing the shoes, instead of moving to the next eyelet, take the shoelace back to the previous eyelet. This doubles up the lace through each eyelet. Depending on the length of your shoelace, you can repeat the process as many times as necessary to hide the laces.

Cut and Seal Technique
With the cut and seal method, you have to shorten the length of your laces. You can check out our blog on how to shorten shoelaces to know how to do this correctly.

This option offers an effective short-term solution. All you have to do is lace up the shoes normally until the last eyelet then cut off the access as per our guide, so the laces overlap perfectly.

Wrap and Tuck Method
The wrap and tuck method is perfect if your laces are too long, and you don’t want to cut them. To use this method, ensure the laces are wrapped from the outside to the inside on the top two eyelets, so they end up inside the shoe.

You can then take the laces around your foot when you wear the shoes and tie the knot behind the tongue of the shoe.

This method allows you to tie the shoe firmly around your leg and still keep the knots out of sight. For this method to work, the laces have to be long enough to go around your feet.

Tie and Tuck Method
The tie and tuck method doesn’t have the cleanest look. But, if you’re in a hurry and don’t want to undo the laces, it works fine. To conceal your shoelaces using this method, the laces should move from inside to the outside on the top two eyelets.

Make a knot and tuck the laces below the tongue of the shoes to hide them. This method might not be the most effective, but it has a sleeker look compared to having the laces tied on top of the tongue.

You can also go for the old under the foot tuck technique. It’s a simple yet effective method of hiding shoelaces. Instead of tying a knot behind the tongue, you tuck them to the side of your foot. However, this is only temporary as the laces get loose over time.
