Let the Games begin

What do Acne, Frankie Morello, Calvin Klein and Burberry Prorsum all have in common? They all showcased pieces in their spring/summer 12 menswear collections referencing sportswear. A theme that consistently manifests itself in the summer seasons. However, for S/S 12 the love for sportswear was unashamedly bold and with Stella McCartney designing Great Britain’s kit for the 2012 Olympics the fusion of fashion and sportswear has been officially put on the map.

With many different sportswear items being shown, such as sweatshirts, lightweight zipped jackets, hoodies and even bike shorts, this is functional fashion. Not only does it look good, but also it serves a purpose.

At Mint, we love this trend for its wearability, a sports jacket is light enough to carry around and warm enough to provide enough coverage from that all too familiar cold British summer
breeze.

This trend looks fantastic when paired with a smart casual look. Throwing a sweatshirt over a softly tailored shirt and chinos is a great way of incorporating this theme into a more formal look.

To keep the trend on the fashion conscious side keep items plain and sleek, avoid overbearing sizes and ostentatious labeling. Let the games begin!
