The Grunge Trend

Saturday, 11 January 2014

Grunge fashion is believed to have originated in the United States in the early 1980′s and emerged when alternative rock music was made popular by bands like Nirvana and Pearl Jam. This style was quickly picked up by designers and was turned into the most ‘rebellious’ and well known fashion trend that fills our streets today. The style combines elements of punk mixed with second hand clothing – think plaid shirts, Dr Marten boots & baggy jeans! One of the most recognisable elements of grunge fashion has to be the plaid / checked shirt – which is great for us, because we have plenty in store! Usually ‘over sized’ or tied around the waist, this low maintenance look comes with a free and easy attitude. Personally, we think tying a checked shirt around your waist is big! It’s a great style trend because anyone can try it, and if you don’t like it, you just take it off. It brings something to the overall look and instantly makes you look that little bit cooler.

Some will tell you that the grunge trend is ‘back’, but we don’t think it ever really left. According to Jean Paul Gaultier ‘Grunge is nothing more than the way we dress when we have no money’ (1993)
